Meta Threads has just snagged the “Threads.com” domain, as reported by TechCrunch. Before now, the domain belonged to a messaging app company, but after they sold to Shopify in June, Meta was able to take it over.
If you’ve been using Meta’s Threads platform, you probably know it’s been running under “Threads.net” because Meta couldn’t get the .com version. Now, with the new ownership, we’ll likely see “Threads.com” leading straight to Meta’s Threads app soon.
This isn’t a huge change for how the app works, but it’s worth noting. A lot of people have accidentally visited Threads.com thinking it was Meta’s site, so this might clear up that confusion and potentially bring in a few more users. While it probably won’t cause a massive jump in sign-ups, having the more intuitive URL could help with overall growth.
As of now, Meta hasn’t announced any specific plans for the newly acquired domain.
